Library Rules and Regulations
| By signing into Fredericia Library, you are accepting the Library Rules and Regulations. Borrowing is free. However, there are charges for loaned items that are overdue. Most library items are on loan for a period for 31 days. You are responsible for any item borrowed on your card. If you lose your card, please inform the library staff at once in order to avoid misuse. |
Please read all the rules regarding borrowing, reservations, returns, and conduct.
Borrowing Rules
- Free Services: Anyone can borrow and renew materials free of charge.
- Borrower Card / ID: Your Danish Health Insurance Card (sundhedskort) serves as your library card. If you are under 18 years old, a parent or legal guardian must sign a registration form before you can borrow materials.
- Alternative Library Cards: Children and others who do not wish to use their Health Insurance Card as a library card can get an alternative library card.
- Identification: You must present your Health Insurance Card as identification the first time you register as a borrower, as well as whenever staff assist you with loans or account changes (such as resetting your PIN).
- PIN / Password: When registering, you must choose a 4-digit PIN/password of your choice. This is required for borrowing via self-service kiosks and for using the library's online services (e.g., reserving or renewing materials, digital services, etc.).
- Personal Responsibility: Your Health Insurance Card / library card is strictly personal. You may only borrow materials using your own card. As a borrower, you are responsible for all materials checked out on your card.
- Lost Cards: The library must be notified immediately if you lose your card, so it can be blocked. You may be held responsible for any misuse until the library has been notified.
- Loan Periods & Renewals: The standard loan period is 31 days. You can renew your loans a maximum of three times, provided the material has not been reserved by another user.
- How to Renew: You can renew items yourself via the library’s app and website, or by contacting the library at biblioteket@fredericia.dk or by phone at +45 7210 6800. Certain materials may have different loan periods or cannot be renewed.
- Receipts: A receipt is issued when you borrow items, showing what you have borrowed and the due date. When returning items, you can choose whether or not you would like a receipt. When borrowing at self-service kiosks, you can choose to have your receipt sent to your email.
- Reminders: You will receive a reminder via SMS or email 3 days before the due date. This service is free.
- After-Hours Returns: Outside opening hours, you can return materials in the book drop located at Danmarksgade 30. Receipts are not available when using the book drop.
- Contact Information: Please notify the library of any changes to your name or address, especially if you change your email address or mobile number. You can update your email address and phone number yourself on the library's website or app. It is your responsibility to ensure that your registered details are correct.
Reservations and Notifications
- You can reserve materials that are currently checked out. You can do this yourself on the library website or ask staff for assistance.
- You can also order materials from other libraries via bibliotek.dk.
- The library will notify you when your requested item is available for pickup. As a general rule, you will receive notifications via SMS and/or email.
- At the library on Prinsessegade, all reserved materials can be picked up at Bibliotekstorvet.
Late Returns and Overdue Fees
- If you return library materials late, you must pay an overdue fee according to current rates, even if the library has not yet sent a reminder.
- Overdue fees are calculated based on the item's original checkout date and do not depend on the number of items borrowed.
- If an item is 15 days overdue, you will receive a reminder by SMS, email, or mail.
- If an item is 35 days overdue, we consider it lost and will issue an invoice for the replacement cost.
- Suspension of Borrowing Privileges: If you violate the rules or owe 200 DKK or more in fees, your borrowing privileges will be suspended. You will receive written notice 10 days before the suspension takes effect. The full balance must be paid before you can borrow again.
